Weekly Update: September 1-5

We kicked of the first week with a BANG!  I am so thrilled with their ability to travel from station to station and for the most part they are really quiet!!  I was able to finish up our one-on-one math assessments and most of my Dibels testing!!  Yay!  I couldn't ask for a more kind and respectful group of kiddos!

On Wednesday, September 3rd I have to attend Letterland training.  Our substitute will be Mrs. Shook.  She is always amazing with the students and I know they will have a great day together.  Please make sure you send a note with your child if you plan on sending your child home in a different way that day.  :)

Reading:

We will continue reading assessments to determine your child's reading level.  As you remember, your child was expected to be a Level D at the end of Kindergarten in order to be considered proficient.  Our goal for this year is for your child to reach a Level J by the end of first grade.  We will be starting off by building fluency with a poem of the week.  We will complete a variety of activities with this poem, but I will try to post the poem here so your child can practice reading (even if memorized) the poem to you!

Math:

This week we worked on breaking apart the numbers 3, 4, and 5.  We used the Number Frame app on the iPads to practice breaking apart numbers and writing the equation.  Check out the anchor chart below.  This chart will be available for my students this week as we continue to learn about adding numbers.

Social Studies:

This week we will begin looking at similarities and differences among neighborhoods and communities.  We will be looking at pictures from back in the day (haha) and comparing them to our neighborhoods and communities now.  It would be great if you could talk to your child about how Conover, schools, etc. have changed since you were little.

I'm looking forward to another great week!  I can't wait to see your little ones on Tuesday! :)
