Weekly Update: May 18-22

My heart goes out to the Campbell's and our community as we mourn in the loss of Kevin Campbell.  He was such an amazing man and principal.  He will be missed by many.  Our community has really come together over the past year as we have lost the lives of two amazing staff members and stand-out community members.  #campbellstrong  #newtonstrong

Dr. Stegall explains it perfectly in The Compass.  Click here to read the article.  I am also proud to be a member of this community and our Newton-Conover family.

Field Day:

Wednesday, May 20th is field day!!!!  The morning session will begin at 8:20 and end around 11:40.  Students will be completing several different stations and each station will last around 15-20 minutes.  We will have a lunch break from 11:40-12:30.  The afternoon session will begin at 12:30 and last through most of the afternoon.

There are several water activities throughout the day.  Your child is welcome to bring a change of clothes and I will try my best to provide time for students to change before the end of the day (depending on how long field day lasts).

Please put sunscreen on your child before sending him/her to school.  Your child is also welcome to bring a water bottle and towel for our afternoon session.

Lunch Count:

We have been asked to turn in a lunch count for the last three days of school (June 10-12).  We sent home a blue paper on Thursday asking for this information.  Thank you to those who were able to send that form back in to me.

Please send that form in as soon as possible if you have been unable to send it in to me.  If you lost it, your child was absent, or you would rather just send me an email that would be great.

Homework:

We will no longer send home Letterland homework or RRJs.  Your child will only be expected to read a book and come prepared each day for an AR test. :)

This week we will not have homework on Wednesday because of field day.  Your child does not need to bring their binder to school on Wednesday.  This should leave room for a change of clothes (if he/she chooses).

Upcoming Events:

May 20th:  K-1 Field Day

May 22nd-June 10th:  End-of-Grade Testing begins in grades 3-5.  Our school will be on lock down for most of the morning to allow these students the best testing environment possible.  Our lunch time and recess schedule could possibly change during this last month of school (on a daily basis) because of testing.

May 25th:  No School - Memorial Day

June 11th:  Awards Day!!!!! :)
     8:20:  3rd and 4th
     10:30:  1st and 2nd
